What sets it apart?
When getting younger kids into the outdoors, it is important to have gear that is easy to use but will still function. Choosing fishing equipment designed for beginner anglers and sized to fit smaller hands will make the learning process much smoother and prevent frustration. At 6 feet, 6 inches, the Tailored Tackle Multispecies Fishing Rod Reel Combo is designed by fishing guides to target multiple species at an affordable price. The reel is a size 35 medium-size spinning reel with 7 ball bearings for smooth action. With a soft-touch knob, left- or right-handed adjustable handle and anti-reverse system, the spinning reel will function under any conditions.

The rod length is ideal for all freshwater fish and can even be used for lighter saltwater action. Every rod purchase comes with a 22-page booklet to help teach you how to fish. The book will walk you through how to cast a pole, how to fish for 7 different species, how to spool your reel and how to maintain your rod and reel.

How do I use it?
At an ideal size for both kids and adults, the medium power, fast action spinning rod will work with 6- to 12-pound line and lures from 1/8 to 5/8 ounces. There are some situations where lighter fluorocarbon or heavier braided line can be used, and lighter or smaller lures will work as well. The average rating is for maximum performance of the rod. With a cork handle for longevity and easy grip, the split-handle rod is built to last and look good at the same time.

The rod is medium action with stainless-steel rod guides and a split-grip cork handle, with a Tailored Tackle green and black color blank.

Justin’s insight:
The rod is called the multispecies combo for a reason — it is designed to go from small brooks or streams for trout to lakes for bass and pike. It has been tested on bigger fish such as carp, bowfin and catfish. Changing the line and tackle for each species is required if you’re targeting fish that drastically vary in size. The rod can be spooled with a medium-size line, such as a 10- to 12-pound fluorocarbon line, and used as-is all season long.

Target your favorite pond, lake, river, stream or brook and have fun. Getting kids into fishing is a great way to pass along an outdoor tradition and spend some time together.
