TheSea to Summit X-Set 31 includes a 3-quart X-Pot, two 20.3-fluid-ounce X-Bowls and two 16.2-fluid-ounce X-Mugs. The X-Pot has a durable aluminum base. The walls of the cook set are made of heavy-duty, heat-resistant, food-grade silicone and can stand the beating of backpacking and hiking and the heat from meal after meal.

What sets it apart?
Sea to Summit has come up with an award-winning idea for backpackers, hikers and all outdoor enthusiasts who want or need to pack light yet still cook full meals on the trail or at camp. Sea to Summit has made this a possibility by designing a full set of cookware with flexible silicone walls that collapse down for extremely compact storage. When stored, the complete set measures a mere 8.4 inches in diameter and 1.5 inches tall.

How do I use it?
Use this cook set as you would any pots and pans. With this set, you can cook just about anything your heart or family desires while backpacking, hiking, canoeing, kayaking or at the campsite. However, the X-Pot should only be used on a backpacking stove or camp stove. A campfire or stove with a burner wider than the base of the X-Pot could damage the walls and the lid of the pot. Another really cool feature is the internal gradient markings on the mugs for measuring ingredients; the bases on the bowls are also durable enough to serve as small cutting boards.

Jimmy’s insight:
There’s a lot to like about this cook set. It packs into a small package that more closely resembles a Frisbee than a pot, bowls and mugs. It also uses heavy-duty, heat-resistant silicone, which is finding more and more uses in restaurant and home kitchens for good reason. The 3-quart pot has a 6063-T6, hardened-alloy aluminum base and is large enough to create a dinner for the family or a small group of friends. One of my favorite features is that the pot is made in such a way that you can safely pour steaming hot water from the pot to another container if necessary. This may seem like a small detail, but it’s one I find important and appreciate. I also appreciate the fact that the silicone pot with aluminum base makes for an easy cleanup, even after a big batch of mac and cheese. There was some serious thought put into the design of this cook set, as with all the Sea to Summit cook sets and gear. While I haven’t backpacked in the past few years, this compact and highly functional cook set has found a home in the starboard locker of my boat for those just-in-case cooking moments.
