Columbia’s multipurpose mindset and build-it-tough attitude has made it a trusted outdoor gear brand for over 80 years. Being based in the Pacific Northwest helps the company test first hand numerous climates, conditions, terrains and elevations. Like many other companies, it focuses on performance products, but even more, it ensures its products are built to last you adventure after adventure!

What sets it apart?

Made up of outdoor enthusiasts itself, Columbia encourages family adventures and passing down the love of the outdoors to future generations. With over 80 years’ experience, the company has seen it all and realizes the importance of outfitting your kids in the proper outdoor gear so that they, too, can enjoy their time in Mother Nature. Unlike many other outdoor brands, Columbia offers a robust performance product line for babies, toddlers and kids.

How do I use it?

We all know younger kids grow incredibly fast, and as parents, we may often consider sizing up a few sizes so the items last longer. When sizing your kids up for hiking boots, going up one size is a good idea to allow room for thicker or double-layer socks plus possible swelling in certain climates, as well as accounting for future growth. Be cautious of sizing up beyond a size, though, because you’ll want to make sure your kids are comfortable in the boots and that they also perform and support your kids’ feet properly.

Adventurtunity Family’s insight:

We absolutely love to hike and frequently take on moderate to difficult hikes. Having the proper footwear for our son is absolutely necessary as we are teaching him how to be a good hiker. If your kids are anything like ours, then they seem to gravitate toward water finding waterproof hiking boots was a huge win, and it’s great that our son can wear them on mud trails, through water crossings and even in the snow! We’ve found Columbia to often have sales, which helps with the cost of the boots. And if your kids keep them in decent shape, you can always resell them through Facebook Marketplace or Poshmark. We’ve had success selling our son’s used items on both of these platforms.
