Hey Kristine Fischer,
here would Go Out{side} so the weather
is getting nicer and there are
a lot of people thinking about getting
into the sport of fishing.
Today I’m going to kind
of walk you through the very basics
that you should take with you.
On your very first fishing trip,
so you’ve got your rod and
your reel, what’s next?
First off, having
just a few simple tools will make your
life a lot easier.
On the water.
There’s being a good pair
of long nose pliers to dislodge
a book that’s way down
in the fish’s mouth, or for
a variety of other reasons.
And either a knife or a simple
pair scissors to cut line Next up.
Having a good variety of hooks.
Bobbers and sinkers are going to
help you catch a variety of fish
so the size of the bobber, hook,
and sinker you’re using
is going to be related to how
heavy the bait you’re using
or what type of species you’re going for.
The smaller species, smaller the bait.
Generally speaking, the smaller the hook
is smaller the bobber,
the less the weight will stay tuned for.
Future videos for will go
into more detail with that though.
Next up.
Whether you’re fishing from
the boat or from the bank, having
a net with long handle is going to make
it a lot easier with landing your fish,
and this allows you to
have your fish remain in the net
in the water so you can
practice good ethical fish handling.
If you’re planning on fishing for
a large species,
it’s always a fun
idea to bring a scale
so you can measure that and
keep record of your personal best.
And Lastly, if you plan
on harvesting your catch,
make sure you bring either
a cooler or a Stringer.
That way you can preserve that fish.
That’s the very basics, and
all you need to go enjoy
a great day on the water.
Go catch ’em, y’all. Good luck.
