Simple 7: Finesse Techniques
Downsize your bait a little and catch some bigger fish with these seven techniques.
Hey it’s Jimmy Kennedy here with Go Outside. We’re on Lake Champlain once again, my favorite lake of course, and I want to show you seven techniques here. And these are all finesse techniques that work in the springtime, summertime or the fall and even a little ice fishing.
But we’ll talk about that another day.
First technique I want to talk about is Ned Rig. And you probably heard about this. It’s been around a few years. It’s a great finesse technique. Throw this bait out there, you can drag it, hop it off the bottom, reel it straight in.
You can’t go wrong. This is a Jackall Yammy fish. There’s a lot of other companies that make them, but this one works really well. Ned Rig.
Number two, old school– two jighead. This thing’s been around a long time and it’s caught a lot of fish.
And it always will too. I tell you, this is an x-zone. But there’s a lot of companies make tubes to put a rattle in there too some time. Throw it out there. Deep water, shallow water. You got to have the tube.
And also got us a little Rapala ripstop crank bait..
And this.. excuse me, jerk bait. And this is a little guy here, but they make some big ones. This is a great lure, though, for downsizing. Throw it out there– stop it, keep trying and get the cadence right.
This thing will catch a lot of fish. And it calls them up too– any depth, really. Jerk bait.
And probably a lot of our favorite right here is the dropshot. This works in deep water. I’ve caught a lot of fish in shallow water, too.
This is the x-zone slammer. But you can rig a Senko– wacky rig on this thing. Works great. This is a little long on a leader, usually about 18 inches. Got a b and c weight on the bottom. Dropshot. This is — this is something you have to try.
Whether you’re in a foreign pod, whether you’re on a bank fishing at a state park or a lake, somewhere in town, anywhere, dropshot catches em’.
And we got a little jig here. Jigs come in all sizes from like one eighth to two ounces probably.
This is a Beast coast hustler– is a kind of finesse jig. You get small. It’s got the hair in it. Very cool jigs, beautiful colors. This you just throw out fish around weeds, rock, wood, anything. It’s very small but it will catch em.
These little jigs are deadly all year long for sure.
And this swim bait and I’ll probably throw this as much as anything I love this. This is the high tech, it’s the little one eight ounce bowhead jig. This is a jackall rhythm wave.
And this thing catches them like nothing else.
Just throw it out there, reel it in.
And this is another really good bait for any lake you’re at– anywhere. Got a lake in the backyard or around a friend’s house. This is a good lure. You probably haven’t seen it either.
Catches big small-ies and big larges.
So that was six techniques. And this is number seven. This is the old school grub. And this thing has caught some huge smallmouth. Down in Pickwick and Dale Hollow. They catch some giants on this thing.
And I’ve done well Champlain with it and it works absolutely everywhere. Throw it out there– just reel it in and let the tail do the work. Maybe a little chartreuse in there, if you want. And that’s seven techniques that work absolutely anywhere, any time of year. Finesse techniques, downsize a little. Get some big old fish. Thank you.
