Kayak Fishing Basics
Hey, guys, Kristine Fischer here with Go Outside. And today we’re going to talk about kayak fishing. So kayak fishing is probably the fastest growing segment of the sport. So I want to talk about kind of the basic things you need to know when you’re looking at buying your first kayak.
So these kayaks come in all different shapes and sizes. So let’s talk about kind of what to look for in these fishing kayaks. Generally speaking, the wider the kayak, the more stable that kayak is going to be. So if you’re new and you want something that’s going to be extra stable, having a wider kayak, it’s going to probably be a good option for you. However, very wide kayaks typically aren’t near as maneuverable. And what I mean by that is they don’t turn as quickly. So if you’re fishing, moving water, fast, moving water, having something that has a little bit better maneuverability is probably a good option.
The length of the kayak depends how well that kayak is going to track. So the longer the kayak, the better that kayak is going to track. Meeting goes straight for long distances. So if you’re covering a lot of water going from point A to point B, having a little longer kayak is going to help you keep that boat straight. So the next thing you want to consider is how much money you want to spend. So guys, I’m going to be totally honest with you. These kayaks can range anywhere from $300 to $5000. So here’s how I like to look at it.
If I’m first getting into sport, I don’t want the least expensive kayak, but I also don’t want to make the investment for the nicest kayak because I want to make sure that I like this now. Part of liking kayak fishing is enjoying your experience.
So you want to you don’t want to go out there and get something that is barely going to get you by because you’re not going to have the best experience out on the water. So there’s always good opportunity on the EU’s market to find great deals on fishing kayaks or find a dealer that has a variety of kayaks and all different price points when you’re doing this. I like to always recommend that you look for a dealer that has an area on site that you can demo these kayaks. Guys, that is so important because you’re able to get out on the water, try several different models, see how they suit your style, see how comfortable they are, and that’s going to help you make a good decision when it comes to buying your first kayak. So I hope that answers all your questions. Hope you guys enjoy the sport of kayak fishing as much as I do.
And good luck out there.
