Kayak Accessories
Hey, everybody. Kristine Fishcer with Go Outside. And we’re going to talk kayak fishing today, specifically some accessories that you need to make your experience a little bit more enjoyable and safer out on the water. So you’ve got your first kayak.
What do you need? Let’s talk about the safety items first. So first and foremost, you guys lifejacket always have to have a life jacket. There are mandatory in all fishing tournaments. A lot of bodies of water require that you have one, and it’s just a good idea to ensure your safety out on the water.
Next thing is a high vis light, and the fly the flag helps other boaters see you, and the light is mandatory at first light and all of the tournaments, and it’s a good way to help people see you out on the water.
Next is a whistle. Again, these are mandatory and kayak fishing tournaments, and you have to have them on a kayak or on person, and they serve as a way for people to find you or locate you on the water.
And lastly, for safety is a paddle. So even if you have a pedal drive kayak, having a paddle is very important because if something happens to your drive and you’re a few miles away from your ramp, you need to have a way to safely get back to the dock.
The next up is some sort of tethering device for your cell phone. Y’all, I can’t tell you how many cell phones I’ve donated to the water because of my negligence. This is going to protect you. You can attach this to your kayak, to your life vest and the other end of your cell phone, and it’s going to
save you a lot of headache in the future. Having a way to secure your fish, whether you’re fishing a kayak tournament or you want the fish to be able to remain in the water while you’re getting your go for already Cal Coast Donkey Leash is an excellent option.
one it attaches to your kayak and the other group is going to allow you to keep that fish in the water while you’re getting things right. Not all kayaks have horizontal or external rod storage. So if your kayak doesn’t have that or you’re someone that likes to trawl getting a rod holder that fits onto a track system
in your kayak or on the the rails of the kayak, it’s going to be a way that you can store your rods and set up a trawling system. So next thing you guys is a basic way to carry your tackle.
So almost every kayak out there has a space behind your seat, and a crate style tackle system is going to be the ideal situation. So crates come in various shapes and sizes. They have accessories that come on the edges, but just a basic rate is going to help you keep all your stuff in one location easy to
load and unload on the kayak. And last but not least, a way to transport your kayak to and from the truck to the water. So having a basic wheel kit that we all spent in the scupper holes in the middle or in the back of the kayak, they make wheels for sand.
So if you look down the coast and you’re driving your car across the beach, they make sand wheels, they make altering wheels. But having a wheel cart is going to make your life so much easier when it comes to dragging your kayak to and from the water.
So that’s just a very basic list of accessories that are going to make your life easier out on the water when it comes to kayak fishing. Hope you all get a chance to get out there this weekend and go catch them.
