How To Set The Hook With Kristine Fischer
You’ve got a bite. Kristine Fischer teaches you how to make sure your catch won’t get away.
Hey guys Kristine Fischer here with Go Out{side} and today I’m going to talk about the most exciting part when it comes to the sport of fishing and that’s setting the hook –reeling the fish in –and landing the fish. So first and foremost when it comes to setting the hook- you want to make sure that you pick up all the slack in your line before leaning back, lifting your rod tip up and setting the hook. When you’re fighting the fish, it’s really important to remember to keep your rod tip up in the air. Keep tension on the line at all times to avoid the fish from spitting the hook.
Now – there are a couple different ways to land your fish, depending on what type of bait or lure you’re using and the size of your fish. For smaller panfish, sometimes it’s easier just to lift the fish up and swing them onto the bank.
For larger game fish, your best method is going to be using a landing net or getting down on the bank. Keeping tension on the line and reaching down and hand landing your fish. And always remember guys if you’re practicing catch and release, try to avoid keeping the fish out of the water for extended periods of time. Make sure your camera’s ready– lift the fish up. Get a great hero shot of your catch and then safely release the fish back into the water. So that covers the basics of setting the hook. Reeling the fish in.
And landing your fish.
Go catch ’em out there and good luck y’all.
