How To Cast
Kristine Fischer talks about the basic casting mechanics of the three most popular types of fishing rod and reels.
Hey guys and gals,
Kristene Fischer here with Go
Out{side} talking about the basic casting
mechanics of the three most popular
types of fishing rod and reels.
First off, we’re going to talk about
the spincast combo this is.
The easiest rod and
reel setup to cast on the market.
This button controls the release
of the line so as
you bring your rod back,
you’ve got your finger on the button
as you bring it forward.
You let go when you
want that bait to stop,
push back on the button.
Having this system
allows you to control how far
your bait travels because you’re able to
stop it just with that
one push of the button.
You can cast this setup overhand.
Underhand.
And can even flip or pitch it.
It’s best to make sure you’ve got about 6
inches of line between your bait
in your tip.
You don’t want to
reel all the way
up to the tip, because that can damage
the lead guide on any of your rod setups.
Next up, let’s talk
about casting a spinning
rod so fairly easy to use.
Much like the spin cast with
one thing you have to
manage, your gonna flip
the bail of the spinning rod,
making sure you hold
onto the line with your index finger.
Then much like a spin cast.
You’re going to let go of the
line as you release
the rod, like a spincast.
Spinning around allows you to cast.
Whichever way is comfortable for you,
whether that be overhand,
underhand, sidearm, you name it.
Alright, last up we’ve got the challenge.
The casting rod reel.
So when
it comes to casting a bait caster,
the number one most
important thing when you’re beginning
is to keep your thumb
on the spool at all times.
So a good rule of thumb
when casting a baitcaster
is to have all of
your brakes on initially
and adjust the spool tensioner
so that your bait falls.
At a nice controlled rate,
the spool tension are
can be found on the side of
the reel and adjusts how fast line
is released off of that spool.
Breaking systems vary
between the different models, so make
sure to check with your specific make and
model to see how their
breaking system works.
This one is found on the
other side of the
reel and can be adjusted
just by simply turning this knob here.
Once you figured out a good setting for
your casting rod, you’re
ready to start casting again.
The most important thing starting off
is to keep your thumb on the spool
so that when you cast.
You’re able to manage the line
and try to prevent the backlash.
Alright everybody, so that
is the basics in casting.
These three different combos remember
most importantly,
it’s all about practice.
The more you practice,
the better you’re going to
get, so don’t get discouraged.
Go out, have a good time
and catch ’em up.
