Catfish Jugs With Bryan Brasher
If you see your jug running across the water, you definitely want to go catch it.
Got him?
Got whiskers?
Yeah.
I’m Brian Brasher.
With Go Out{side} today,
we’re going to talk about catfish jugs
when you think about all
the technological advances
and fishing today,
the big depth finders,
a fancy trolling Motors.
This is the exact opposite of that.
This is old school as it gets.
It is a Powerade bottle that
I have spray painted orange
tied line to the
neck of it down at the end of line.
I have a hook and a sinker.
We’re going to take him out.
We’re going to beat him with hot dogs.
It spray painted
orange so that you can see it.
A long way on the surface of the water
and what it does is it floats
and got about 8 foot of line on
here you put the bait at
the at the bottom of it and
it does all your work for you.
It’s a great tool for.
People who are novices, young people,
and really I kind of like it myself too.
Now forget all the
fancy casting techniques
and flipping and all
were going to throw a
piece of recycled garbage
into the water with a line
on the end of it.
And then throw the hook in and
let the garbage do the work for us.
Like I said, you want to
put him out far enough apart
that they don’t get tangled and so
that you cover a big
stretch you want to cover.
With these you put out 25 or 30.
You can cover a big stretch of water.
Seth is keeping them baited
up for me here.
There are couple things you want to
remember when you’re using catfish jugs.
At the beginning of your trip and at
the end before you start
before you ever put a jug in the water.
Check the regulations in your area.
Some states have
restrictions on jug, some lakes
within areas have
their own restrictions on jugs,
so know that your legal
before you put him out and
know exactly how many put out there.
If you put out 25 you want to
be sure and bring back 25 with you.
For one thing, you don’t want to
leave this floating around.
Whichever like you’re fishing and
if you put out 25
and at the end of the day you’ve
only got 23 back in the boat.
Chances are those two
have swam off somewhere.
That’s your best chance of bringing
back fish, so you certainly want to go.
And try to find those.
Right now we have a dozen or
out on the Lake and right in our
immediate view, we can
only see about 9, so
we can only assume that three
are somewhere doing their own thing.
We’re going to find out.
Well, the one thing we
know about plastic jugs
is they don’t swim across the top
of the water by themselves.
So when you find one moving,
there’s usually a reason for it.
If we can maneuver this craft.
Closer to this one will find
out what’s moving it.
I get one pass at him.
Got him.
Got whiskers, yeah?
No, that’s one really easy fish.
And we had this guy.
Dragging one around the Lake.
That’s the way it’s supposed to work.
It’s an easy way to put fish in the boat
without a whole lot of effort, knowledge,
time expended, and it’s fun.
Seth gets to hold the fish.
