Day Pack Tips For Hiking
Explore Ambassador
I’m Brooks Tiller with Bassmaster’s Go Outside today and we’ll share with you a little tips. My thoughts on getting a day packed now Day Pack is the pack that you’re going to carry with you on a two to three hour or maybe a half a day excursion in and of course, checking out State Park.
It’s local. Just getting on some local trails and enjoying the outside. I chose my pack because I wanted to fit me six foot to fit my wife or for my little kids, about 50lbs and barely four foot tall.
I went with the Everly star dagger for multiple reasons, but one because of the size. It weighs about £2 empty, a little bit less than fill up of water, and you’re hitting about £2. It’s got a two liter hydration bladder.
It’s got multiple compartments inside and has one on the outside. It even has the Moly system that we can attach other things to. So break it down no matter what pack you’re going to get. What do you want?
Number one? It’s got to be comfortable or we’re not going to wear it. So we have the straps. These are breathable. I have a little bit of extra padding on that so that it’s not digging down and I want some water straps.
I want these little thin straps. I don’t want it digging down into my shoulders, my traps, digging into me. Now what I want also is I want a belt strap, almost something come around my waist. I can tighten that up, takes the load off my shoulders, puts the load on my hips because my hips can carry a
lot more than my shoulders can for comfort sake. When you’re looking at the pack where it’s going to be hitting your back here, we have some pretty thick padding. That padding is going to create ventilation channels so that we get more air and we’re not getting as hot and didn’t feel suffocated.
We’re walking. So we’re going to carry more, carry longer, go longer, and it’s not going to be as hard and rough on us. So we have these nice soft pads on there. Next, I want to make sure I have a water bladder inside.
Now the hydration bladder is a two liter one in here. What that’s going to do is it’s going to keep the water on my back instead of me having to worry about water bottles, take in trash and taking trash out of wherever I’m going.
I don’t want to leave litter behind. So I have two liters of water in my pack on me ready to go next. We have compartments. You have some extra zippers in this compartment. I’m going to put my first aid kit just in case something happens and we’ll trail just to make sure we can get back to the
truck next and we’ll put some snacks. Now, if you have kids or if you’re like me and you get really hungry, pretty often you’re going to put a bunch of snacks in here now to make sure that we have a little extra food and energy.
Round trip. Another thing that I really like to have on my pack is whenever I’m looking my straps, I want to have a little molly system. This one has it on both sides, so you can always put carabiners, clips so you can right here you can attach a whistle.
Bear spray If you’re in bear country, you can also tuck. You can attach well, you can touch. Bug spray, apparently, is what you might need. So that’s one reason I chose this pack. But no matter what pack you choose, the key is no, who’s going to be carrying it know that it’s going to be able to carry
enough that you need. Make sure go get you a day pack, fill it full of water, dopey snacks and a little bit of first aid. Get all your loved ones gathered up and then go outside.
