A Day Out{side} Exploring the Red Canyon Slots
Located outside of Kanab, Utah – Red Canyon offers a unique hiking experience weaving through the slots below.
We took a day outside to explore a slot canyon outside of Kanab, Utah. Red Canyon, also known locally as Peekaboo Canyon, is a super fun adventure for all. The trip from the trailhead to the slot canyon is almost four miles. It can be hiked, but it’s mostly deep sand with very little shade. So most take a Jeep ATV or other four by four vehicle.
Once we got to the slot canyon, we were treated to a beautiful hike through wavy, red, orange and tan rock walls that seemed to stretch as high as the sky.
In some areas, the walls are even close enough to climb and stretch across. Be sure to take a layer or two. We were pleasantly surprised with how much cooler it was exploring inside the canyon.
Even in the heat of summer, the temperatures inside the canyon can be 20 degrees cooler than outside.
This is our first slot canyon and we enjoyed it so much. We’ll definitely be searching for more to explore.
