Simple 7: Boat Snacks With Jimmy Kennedy
Stop and take a refreshing break out on the water with these easy boat snack ideas from Chef Jimmy Kennedy.
Hey, hey, Jimmy Kennedy
here with go outside,
we’re on my favorite
lake, Lake Champlain,
and we thought it
might be a good idea to show you seven
really good simple boat snacks.
And it’s really hard
to stop fishing sometime,
especially here on the lake.
This is good, but you need to
you need to stop, hydrate,
have a good snack,
especially when you got the family,
you know,
make some snacks at home, bring them out.
It’s a fun time.
It breaks a day up
and it’s important, too.
So we get started here
and show you what we got today here.
Speaking of healthy, this is
this is one of the healthiest, I mean.
We got carrots, cucumbers,
peppers, celery.
But as as always,
you can use anything you like.
I love these things
that I have in the fridge.
And then I made pimento cheese.
And this has often been called
the peanut butter of the south.
It’s so good.
It’s so simple and it’s so easy to make.
I just got some Cabot,
Seriously sharp cheddar here.
I got some mayonnaise, pimentos,
salt, pepper and a little bit of sugar.
That’s all it is.
Those few ingredients
Together should not taste this good, but they do
I mean, make it home,
put it in the cooler.
You’ll be glad you did
make some sandwiches. It also makes a really good grilled cheese.
Next thing also healthy.
We’re on a health kick today.
These are called — well they can be called just about anything…
But these are high protein
granola bites is what I like to call them.
this is oatmeal.
You can see the oatmeal,
got some dried cranberries.
You like those– throw some other fruit in there,
some weigh protein powder.
And the secret ingredient
to make them so shiny
and hold together like this
while they’re baked is yogurt.
I use some vanilla yogurt.
So tasty.
These take about
probably ten minutes,
maybe fifteen in the oven.
And
I make little muffin bites like this,
but you could roll them into balls,
do whatever you want
and all these recipes
would be on the website.
So you don’t have to follow
along that closely on that part yet.
But these are good.
These are great for the deer stand.
They don’t need to be
refrigerated, hiking, great
for hiking or boating.
And I also love peanut butter and jelly,
but putting peanut
butter jelly on a cracker like the Ritz
or anything like that,
these things are so good.
And another thing to make it home,
you can just stack them up.
Boom boom, put them in something.
Yum.
Good stuff.
Super simple.
And kids love this.
Really good.
Tasty.
The other one is crepes.
And I started making crepes
for the restaurant
a long time ago
and I was using like crawfish tail meat, brown butter
all kind of really good stuff
and in demos,
food demos and things.
But I got to thinking these
make good boat snacks too
you can make a bunch of crepes at home,
make like ten or twelve,
use whatever you want in them.
Today we got strawberries
and Nutella, some cabot whipped cream,
just cut them up.
It’s kind of, you know,
makes for fancy, fancy
little break from fishing out here.
And these things are super tasty,
but bananas and peanut butter
are really good, too in these. whatever you want, though.
Another thing I’ve been trying to come up
with a really creative idea
for Cheeseboard.
A lot of times I’ll use a little paddle.
I keep it in the boat, spread it out
with pepperoni and stuff.
But I came up with this
thought the other day, got this Flambeau box.
We just kind of made
a little cheese board right in here.
I though oh man this will hold it great.
Peanuts, chips, pretzels, pepperoni,
prosciutto, mozzarella olives cheese, brie.
Great thing is you make it at home,
have your kids make it at home
right in the box,
closer up, put it in the cooler,
good to go.
use any size cooler you like.. if you go
and you’re going hiking,
maybe just use a smaller Flambeau
box or smaller box.
And, you know, this needs
to be refrigerated for a little bit.
Put in the cooler in the boat.
You’re good to go.
I like our new idea.
One of my favorite treats
of all times are fruits.
I even eat this for dessert. Watermelon.
I love this stuff.
And I was trying to think this — since we’re fishing
and we want to try
to make it a fish theme.
So we made these little bobbers,
just took a straw, cut it, put it in here
and just always trying to,
you know, kind of a think of a way
to get kids to eat more fruit,
more veggies, take a creative
cut these out with a melon baller at home,
takes about five minutes.
Put them in the cooler.
You’re good to go and just grab a straw and
some scissors and have fun with it.
So our next one could be considered
a snack or even lunch.
And it’s kind of a cool way
to bring some hot dogs out on the boat.
And we just got a thermos here.
You can do this in a coffee
thermos or a mug or anything
as long as it’s big enough to hold
some delicious
hot dogs.
Look at that steam.
These things are really hot up.
But these in about an hour ago,
just put some boiling water in.
In the morning.
You’re done.
You can leave your buns out in the sun
for a little bit,
let them warm up, get soft.
Come up here,
and if you do want to make them a snack,
are you got to do is
just cut them in two or three pieces
with some toothpicks in to hold them
to make them look all fancy,
you bring out some condiments.
We got mustard, ketchup, relish,
anything you want.
You know,
I love these eating things out on the boat.
And it’s so easy, especially
with a thermos, you know,
and that’s seven boat snacks.
Take some time to hydrate,
have some snacks out on the boat
with a family and enjoy it.
It’s good stuff.
