Gourmet Hotdogs With Jimmy Kennedy

You can have a plain hotdog or you can jazz it up with these recipes from Jimmy Kennedy.

I think it could easily be said that hot dogs are America’s go-to for camping trips and backyard barbecues more than any other food. If they don’t fall into the No. 1 spot, they are at least close, and why not? Hot dogs are easy to pack, are delicious grilled over an open fire or grill and kids love them. However, that doesn’t mean we can’t dress them up a little with something other than ketchup and yellow mustard.

Chicago: all-beef frankfurter, yellow mustard, pickle spear, chopped onion, tomato wedge, pepperoncini and celery salt on a poppyseed hot dog bun.

Memphis BBQ: smoked sausage or kielbasa, pulled pork, coleslaw and BBQ sauce on a regular hot dog bun.

Cuban: hot dog, ham slice, roasted pork slice, pickle slices, Swiss cheese, mayo and mustard on a sub or hero roll.

House Favorite: bratwurst, sauerkraut, relish, chopped onion and seeded mustard on a regular hot dog bun.

Black and Blue: all-beef hot dog, blue cheese, caramelized onions and mustard on a sub or hero roll.

Caesar Salad: chicken or all-beef frankfurter, tossed Caesar salad and feta cheese on a New England-style hot dog bun.

South of the Border: chorizo, avocado, salsa and cheddar in a flour or corn tortilla.

Cajun: andouille sausage, pepper jack cheese, shredded lettuce, tomato and Creole mustard on a muffuletta.

Breakfast Dog: all-beef hot dog, scrambled egg, bacon slice, mayo, ketchup and shredded cheddar cheese on a regular hot dog bun.
