Easy Trail Granola
This trail snack is fun for the whole family to make. Grab the kiddos and create a yummy treat together for the next outdoor adventure.
Hey, everybody, Jimmy Kennedy here with Go Outside.
We’re going to show you one of our favorite– I’d say our favorite hiking recipe is homemade granola.
And the great thing about this, like a lot of our recipes, you can use just about any ingredients you want.
One of my favorites, the almonds and sunflower seeds. But we kind of just use what we had today and we’ll walk you through it and show you the whole the whole recipe, right, girls? Mm hmm. These guys are great.
We’re here again with June, my daughter, our friend Emma and Lucy. And they’re pros at fishing and at cooking. So hopefully you enjoy this granola.
Now we’re going to make the granola.
That’s trail mix.
Dried cranberries.
Oh there’s a bug in the crunchy. Get it out.
It’s stuck to the bottom of the bowl. Scoop it out.
And now you mix it up.
Now we’re going to add our wet ingredients.
Maple syrup. Oil and water. And vanilla extract.
We are warming up our wet ingredients now.
I’m just going to whisk it.
We’re going to mix our wet and dry ingredients together.
It smells so good.
That was heavy.
OK, and now we are going to put it in a greased pan.
It’s been 45 minutes. We’re going to take the granola out.
See what it looks like. And we stir it every 15 minutes.
Let’s see what we got here. Ooh, smells good.
And when you do this, you have to kind of like kind of get it off the bottom and it didn’t stick too bad. This is a well-greased pan.
So it looks good, smells good. And the M&Ms are melted, that’s going to be nice. So what you do is just stir this up. Then we’re just going to sit on the rack to cool.
And when the granola comes out, it’s soft. It looks really soft now, but it’s going to crisp up as it cools. That’s all we got to do. We’re going to let it cool for about 30 minutes. And it’ll be good to go. Use this for our rack.
We’ll show you the finished product.
This is, by far, my favorite granola recipe. It’s wonderful for breakfast, but also makes a great trail mix for hiking or camping.
