Banana Boat S’mores
Here’s yet another delicious take on marshmallows and chocolate, but this time we made it “healthy” by pairing it with bananas and granola. It’s somewhat healthier and just as tasty as the original s’mores, if not more so. It’s also just as messy and it doesn’t always come out of the coals or off the grate looking like it’s time for a social media post, but the flavors make up for that. Grab a spoon and plenty of napkins and enjoy.
Hey, everybody. Jimmy and June Kennedy here with Go Out{side} and we are on the breeo again. And we have what we like to call roasted banana boats. As you can see, it’s kind of chilly out it’s spring, but we’re in Vermont, and it’s it’s taken a while to to get warm. But all of this recipe is really bananas, marshmallows, chocolate and some granola or anything like granola and it’s kind of like a banana boat s’more, I guess.
Isn’t it something like that. Super easy it’s great for the campfire. We wrap these in aluminum foil. So you could put them right in the coals if you want. We’re just going to put them right on the grate today. We’ll show you how to get this thing started. There’s one for you. And instead of peeling the bananas, what we do is we just take them.
Let’s just cut that out. We don’t need that thing do we. All right. Just cut them length-wise just like that here. Won’t you open that one up? I’ll cut us another one.
Like a lot of our recipes, you can use just anything you want, but basically, marshmallows and chocolate are key here.
And all we’re doing is just like June’s doing is open these up a little bit like that.
And we’ll put them in aluminum foil. Once you grab a sheet of that. So open it up, I’m going to go to marshmallows first.
Load them in there. Chocolate and you can use straight up granola. But today we’ve used Cheerios, some chocolate covered pretzels and cranberries all that kind of good stuff. You going to do yours? Look how good that looks. We’ve done a lot of desserts lately. Excuse me, into this is pretty tasty. I like this I like the fact you can do it right in the fire, right in the coals.
So just seal it up nice and tight. I’m going to start this over here on the grate. If we have to. We’ll put it in the coals and let it go. But we’ve got a great fire going right now. It shouldn’t take long. About 10 minutes and that chocolate will melt, the marshmallows will get gooey, be super yummy. What are you doing?
Marshmallows, then chocolate? Then granola? Sweet. All right. We’ll check back in on these in a sec. All right folks these haven’t been on long. How long you think Um.
Five minutes
Five, maybe ten. It’s good. Hot fire. They’re pretty warm.
I think they’re done. Let’s check Be careful here, because sometimes this stuff is pretty toasty warm. Oh, my goodness.
Hmm.
We got a lot of good chocolate and marshmallows. Yeah, it’s done.
That’s definitely done.
It’s. It’s a messy endeavor, but it’s yummy. Here, I’ll give you this one. And all you do is open this up. Keep it in aluminum foil. You could put it in a plate if you want. And you have to eat this with a spoon or fingers. Either one.
But definitely recommend spoon.
If you don’t want to get super messy. Exactly. See what this one looks like. Oh, yeah, marshmallows melted. And we’ve even been crazy enough at this point to put this in a bowl and put ice cream on top. So then it’s really a banana split, but we’ve only done that a couple of times. Bananas soften up, the granola softens up. They’re yummy.
I love bananas and chocolate. So good and so messy. You see how easy this is? I mean, we’ve seen this about so many of our recipes, but it really is so simple. Cook it right in the fire. You can cook this at home, in an oven or outdoors on your grill. Anything so easy and so yummy.
Just another variation on s’mores. Enjoy. Go Out{side} and we’ll see you next time.
4 ripe bananas
½ cup or so of chocolate chips
½ cup or so of marshmallows
½ cup or so of granola
Instead of opening the bananas the usual way by peeling them, you want to take a knife and just cut through the peel lengthwise, from top to bottom. Open the peel up a little and sprinkle the chocolate chips, marshmallows and granola on top of the banana but save enough to go around. Close the banana back up as much as you can. Then take an 8 to 10-inch square of aluminum foil and wrap the bananas so they ae tightly sealed. You can place them directly in the coals or on a grate over a fire. The idea is to just melt the chocolate and marshmallows and warm the banana. Let cook for 8 to 10 minutes and check one of the banana packs. When the chocolate is melted and all gooey remove them from the heat. Carefully open each one and let cool for just a minute or two. You can enjoy these right out of the aluminum foil or place the whole packet on a paper plate, but you will need a spoon.
